Yeonmi Park spent the majority of her childhood moving from one country to other. In 2002, her father got arrested after he was caught for illegal trading. After his arrival from the jail, her family decided to leave the country & move to China. Though they (Yeonmi & her mother) have successfully escaped North Korea, they had a hard time in China as well. Her father decided not to escape the country at that time as he fell sick. Sadly, her father was dead the next year.
Yeonmi & her mother decided to move to South Korea and escaped China via Mongolia. After studying in South Korea & she moved to the United States for higher studies. After settling in the USA, she began as an author & speaker. She was written for many newspapers, blogs, etc about her life in North Korea. One of her major works was her book In Order To Live which was published in 2015. She has also become a prominent speaker & spoke at major events including TED.
